Horse breeding and marketing is not just a leisure activity for a small number of people, but also a business for many. Brazil currently owns the world’s third largest horse herd, with 5,9 million heads, according to FAO numbers (Food and Agriculture Organization), in 2002. With all of their beauty and versatility, horses have adjusted themselves to user needs quickly. The horse market is expanding rather quickly, with new business chances for new breeders. Products which are accessible to layers of middle urban class are already being successfully commercialized, aiming at improving quality of life by increasing leisure and sports integrated to nature. This is the size of the equine culture, which currently has, in Brazil, an important agribusiness chain, with strong interrelation with sectors connected to leisure, culture and tourism. |
